PENTECOST SUNDAY 8th JUNE 2025

Last week marked the day Jesus ascended into heaven, Ascension Day, and 10 days after Ascension it is;

PENTECOST… “THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES”

Pentecost is 50 days after Jesus’ Resurrection.

 Acts of the Apostles 2 v 1-21 NLT…

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages! Here we are—Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!” They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other. But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!”

Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that. No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:

‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy. And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below—blood and fire and clouds of smoke. The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the LORD arrives. But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.’

  • How powerful is this?
  • What does it mean to you?

Acts of the Apostles 2 v 22-42 NLT…

“People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know. But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him. But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip. King David said this about him:

‘I see that the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave. You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.’

“Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.

“God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today. For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said,

‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’

“So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”

Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

God prepared The Way for the spread of the Good News. Pentecost is MASSIVE. Faith, Belief, Trust.

Today is ASCENSION DAY

After 40 days with his disciples Jesus returned to heaven, Praise the Lord.

THE ASCENSION OF JESUS

6) So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”

7) He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.

8) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

9) After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.

10) As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them.

11) “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

(Acts 1 v 6 -11 (NLT) )

• What did that mean to them and what does it mean to you today ?

• We should be ready for his sudden return. Not by standing around, “Staring into heaven”, but by working hard to share the Good News.

ARE YOU READY ?

Pray to the Lord and read Acts  1 v 1- 11 again and praise the Lord as you do.

Peace and Goodness be with you

Be bold be strong

God bless

OWNERSHIP

What do you own; clothes, phone, laptop, car…the list could be endless. But what if you don’t own anything? What then? Can that be true of this world – nothing? Circumstances and situations can make life very hard and unappealing. This is a story of one such time in a person’s life…

There is a worship song called “Be Bold Be Strong”, it is a very special song because it has an echo after the “Be Bold Be Strong” line, and you need somebody to sing it. During a chapel service in a local prison, a guy called Robbie was asked to sing it, very reluctantly he agreed. Robbie suffered with money issues, including anxiety and depression, so him agreeing was a really big deal.

After we had sung it, in our own off key, but enthusiastic way, Robbie came to me to say thanks and could he maybe, if it was okay, do it again sometime. He was told the echo was his until he was released, no-one else was going to sing it until then. He then said something that has stayed with me ever since, he first said; “honest? Its mine” then he went on to say he had “never owned anything” that was just his, and not going to be taken away. Over the next few weeks he sang the echo for all to hear, at every service, gaining an inward confidence that was never there before and he told me “God had put it there”. That song has proved to be a very special one and over the years it has been sung many times and the echo by the chosen few. Every time it’s sung, I remember Robbie’s story of ownership.

We can all have ownership of something special, we don’t have to sing but we can take ownership of our faith and our relationship with God. Nobody is going to take that off you. So, step out, look at your faith. Have you got ownership, is it moving forward or just stagnating. It may be time for us all to have a “Be Bold Be Strong” moment in our lives…

Be Bold (Be Bold), Be Strong (Be Strong),
For the Lord your God is with you;
Be Bold (Be Bold), Be Strong (Be Strong),
For the Lord your God is with you!
I am not afraid (No! No! No!)
I am not dismayed (Not Me!)
For I’m walking in faith and victory;
Come on and walk in faith and victory,
For the Lord your God is with you.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Amen! 🙏🏻

THE LAST SUPPER, WHAT!?

Did you have supper last night? Do you even know what supper is? Or is it best to say did you have something to eat? Hopefully the answer will be yes.

Was the meal, just a meal or did it have some major significance to you; birthday, anniversary, or just meeting up with your family/friends? And was it the last time you would eat with them? Lots of questions – enough to give you indigestion!

You probably just had a normal meal at the usual time with the same people you always eat with, simple.

So that probably was the same feeling the twelve disciples of Jesus had all those years ago. They knew it was to celebrate the feast of Passover, so a special time to meet, but not the last time they would break bread with Jesus before he was crucified the next day!

In the four Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John they all show the disciples with Jesus, breaking bread. It may be a story you are familiar with or not, but Jesus knew his end was near and the breaking of bread was a significant moment in his ministry, the lives of his disciples and all of us, to this day.

So, when you break bread/take Holy Communion, however you want to call it, remember what you are doing today, Jesus did over 2000 years ago and generations have done since…

When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”

Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.”

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people-an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”

– Luke 22 v 14-20 NLT

Wow…never forget what taking the bread and wine really means.

All that is left to say is “PRAISE THE LORD” and “AMEN”!

Peace be with you, Be Bold Be Strong,

STORM “ME”

The naming of storms by the weather organisations is interesting…it goes; boy, girl, boy, girl and lasts until the storm passes through and another weather storm begins, and a new name picked.

Do you have storms in your life? Think. Try this; after the name “Storm”, put your name and think how that relates to you.

Are you surrounded by a storm? Most of us are at sometime in our lives. It does not matter how big or how small the storm is, a storm is a storm, a problem is a problem if it relates to you.

When we are in our own storm the world can, and is, a very lonely place. We feel many emotions and we can start to lose control. Does that sound familiar to you? So what can, and should we do?

If you have Jesus in your life, you will never be alone. We will still hit storms in our lives but we will never be on our own.

In Matthew 8 v 23-27, when Jesus was sleeping, the disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!”, then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

What does that all mean to us and our lives? This story of Jesus calming the storm should bring great encouragement and hope for anyone facing a storm in life. With Jesus everything is possible, so turn to God, give yourself to Christ and talk to Jesus.

Just pray, you may be surprised by what God can do for your and how you face storms in the future.

Psalm 62 v 2 says; “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.”

Remember Jesus next time you face a storm.

Peace be with you, Be Bold Be Strong,

IT’S TIME

“It’s Time”, what does that mean? Time for what? Well, for followers of Christ, it’s time to get ready for resurrection Sunday, when Jesus Christ was Risen! Hallelujah!

So, it’s time to get ready and that starts this year on Tuesday 13th February 2024 which is called “Shrove Tuesday”, or “Fat Tuesday” or “Mardi Gras” (which is French for “Fat Tuesday”).

Many Christian communities that observe Lent also celebrate Shrove Tuesday, and traditionally, pancakes are eaten on this day so as to use up rich foods like eggs and dairy in anticipation of the 40 day fasting season of Lent. The beginning of “Lent” this year starts on Wednesday 14th February 2024 which is called Ash Wednesday, but this year it also falls on a date known by many as St Valentine’s Day, a day of romance and love in many regions around the world.

Why is it called Lent? Lent is an old English word meaning “Lengthen”, Lent is observed in spring, when the days begin to get longer. Lent is the time of preparation before the resurrection of Christ. The Lenten season is a time when many Christians observe a period of fasting, repenting, moderation, self-denial and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus, his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection.

Some Christians also take on a Lenten discipline, such as reading the bible and spending more time in prayer to get closer to God. You could use a Lent Devotional to lead you along your journey with the Lord starting on Ash Wednesday (see https://cwwm2011.uk/lent-advent-devotionals/ for your free 2024 Lent Devotional).

Don’t forget the date February 14th Ash Wednesday, It’s Time! So this Valentine’s Day Love Jesus, not just for the day but for eternity.

TIME LIMIT

“Time Limit” is a sobering thought for the New Year, or at any time, for all of us, and it’s regarding the homeless in the UK.

You will have your opinion on the homeless, it may be right or flawed but it’s your opinion. However, for whatever reason the homeless are out there every day of the year, and it’s not a good place to be.

So, I am asking you, when you pass or see a homeless man or woman, to understand that the life expectancy for them in the UK is; 47 for men and 43 for women. Just read that again and think! 47 for men, 43 for women…no more. How shocking is that at any time, but in this day and age it’s absolutely horrendous. How old are you? or your partner? son? daughter? friend?

Everybody that’s on the streets, or homeless in some way, has a story. So, try not to be quick to judge or condemn but remember “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do).

Being homeless on the streets isn’t a life choice but it may just be a death sentence.

Peace be with you,

“HAPPY HOLIDAY” WHAT? NO! HAPPY CHRISTMAS…

Happy Christmas to you all, to everyone. This is not going to be a rant, not really. It’s just very disappointing, that every year at this time, the holiday celebration gets bigger and bigger and the celebration of Christ gets smaller and smaller…to the extent that it’s almost lost to the world, (certainly in the UK).

Since September, shops of various persuasions have had shelves of red, green, gold and silver Christmas ornaments, tinsel and the like displayed with presents and food galore ready to be purchased. So, it’s made clear to us all that the clock is ticking down to the big day, yes, the day…

For most of us it’s December 25th and that means presents, social and family gatherings, eating too much and generally lots of stress and overindulgence! But really, and this is where I have to write this; “Jesus is the Reason for the Season”, Honest! Otherwise, what’s it all about?

Yes, I know it wasn’t Jesus’s true birthday, but it’s a day to celebrate the Son of God’s arrival on Earth, in the way that he did. And WOW! That’s definitely worth celebrating; the coming of the Lord, Praise Him indeed!

Read the Gospel of Luke 2 v 1-20, search for the Nativity Story, take time out from all the stress and pressure that is created at this time to really feel the true “Reason for the Season”.

Think about it; there’s no Christmas without Jesus.

Peace be with you and a very Happy Christmas.

MEAN IT

Your faith is real, it’s not a game, if you say you’re a Christian “MEAN IT”.

Christians need to have a real close relationship with God, to be able to withstand the challenges of a secular society. The world is a very challenging place.

If you are a superficial Christian (i.e. only on the surface, never taking your faith any deeper), you will not cope with the day-to-day pressures and issues against our faith today.

• WE NEED TO KNOW GOD
• WE NEED TO WALK THE WALK WITH CHRIST
• WE NEED TO NEED AND DEPEND ON GOD
• WE NEED TO LET THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDE US

If we are able to do these things, we will have the type of relationship with God that will help us get through life’s issues and challenges that will be aimed at us and our faith.

By showing we “MEAN IT” we show that being a Christian means everything and others will have the opportunity to “see” not only what Christ means to us but also what Christ can do for them.

Don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk and MEAN IT.

RESUSCITATION NEEDED! HONEST!

“Church” in this country (UK) is not working! How can we tell other countries, how to do church worship, if we get it so wrong? Instead of being superior to others, we need to look at ourselves and be honest.

The world needs the gospels but so do we in the UK. Christianity in the UK must take an honest look at the steady decline of the church.

It’s not working in this country, so we need to look closer to home. Our models of church cannot be that good, because Christianity in the country is dying.

We need to get out and spread the word. Open the doors and step out in faith in Jesus’s name.

People will see what they see, people working for Jesus, not behind walls but in daily society.

We have to make a difference, the time is NOW, NOW, NOW!

We need to know where we are at, with our own individual relationship with God (“The Big Boss”) and work accordingly with others.

How can people come to Christ if they do not know him? HOW?!

It’s time to break down barriers and build bridges, before it’s too late…

Bridges that lead to THE BIG BOSS!

Be Bold Be Strong.
